EXFOLIANTS 101

Scrubs are small particles, either natural or synthetic, that mechanically abrade the skin's surface to produce immediate results.

Enzymes are naturally occurring acids (such as papaya, pumpkin and many others) that dissolve debris, dirt and old skin cells.

Dermafiling, similar to microdermabrasion, uses a non-electrical hand-held (mechanical) device to abrade and smooth skin texture.

Microdermabrasion, uses an electrical machine to abrade mechanically and smooth skin texture.

Chemical Exfoliations are chemical acid solutions that are applied to the skin.  They may be self-neutralizing and may be left on the skin or they may need to be neutralized and removed.  Chemical solutions absorb into the skin and work by gradually lifting old skin cells either immediately or over time, approximately 5-10 days.

ABOUT EXFOLIATIONS

Exfoliants are any substances or products that exfoliate or resurface the skin, turn over the skin cells, and stimulate new skin cell growth.

They dissolve dirt, unclog pores, help reduce acne, soften fine lines and wrinkles, retexture and smooth skin, balance tone, brighten skin, repair sun-damaged skin, lighten dark spots and pigmentation.

Exfoliants can be mechanical or chemical and may include, but are not limited to, scrubs, enzymes, chemical solutions (peels), microdermabrasion, etc.
